Walmart partners with Getaway to launch ‘mini-retail experience’

American retail giant walmart has partnered with health and wellness hospitality company Getaway to launch a ‘mini-retail experience’ for visitors who wish to spend time in nature.

The General Store by Walmart format will be open at select Getaway Outposts and will feature seasonal items sourced from Walmart and curated by outdoor experts at Getaway.

These will include hiking gear, recreational activities and equipment such as FujiFilm cameras, Lodge cast iron pans and Pendleton outdoor blankets.

Additionally, General Store by Walmart will house products from small businesses within the community, expanding partner efforts to support local communities.

Customers can also purchase items offered at the store on through a Getaway shopping page.

The first store will be located at Getaway Hill Country in Wimberley, Texas. Its opening is scheduled for next month.

The partners plan to open more stores in Connecticut, California, New York and Missouri.

Casey Schlaybaugh, Vice President of Walmart US Brand Marketing, said, “Walmart’s partnership with Getaway furthers our mission to help people live better lives, wherever they are.

“We go beyond just saving people money by empowering customers to maximize the Getaway experience and allowing them to spend more quality time with those who matter most.”

This partnership made Walmart the first official business partner of Getaway.

Guests visiting the stores over the next six months will receive welcome kits containing ingredients for s’mores, a popular snack among campers.

Plus, guests visiting any Outpost within the next 12 months will receive a complimentary Walmart+ trial.

Earlier this month, Walmart signed a major electric vehicle delivery deal with U.S. auto startup Canoo to expand its last-mile delivery fleet.

The retailer will purchase 4,500 Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles (LDVs) from Canoo, with the option to purchase up to 10,000 units of LDVs.
