Using the trapdoor

One of my favorite parts of Hatch Rest is its customization. With 11 different sounds and essentially unlimited color choices, my four-year-old daughter and I had a blast picking up new options every few days.

The 11 sound options include:

  • White noise
  • Rain
  • Water current
  • Wind
  • ocean waves
  • Birds
  • Dryer
  • Forest
  • Three different lullaby options

In addition to selecting a sound to help your child fall asleep or wake up, the Hatch Rest also functions as a nightlight. Although there are 10 preset colors that you can quickly select, you can also open a color wheel for unlimited options.

The sound volume and brightness of the night light can be easily controlled via buttons on the bottom of the Hatch Rest or via the app.

Personalized programs

The real value of something like the Hatch Rest is in helping create consistent bedtimes and wake times for a baby or child. Having the ability to create custom schedules that repeat at the same time every day is a big help.

Our daughter now knows when the pink light comes on and her favorite lullaby begins, that it’s time for us to get ready for bed. When the light turns yellow in the morning with birdsong, she knows it’s morning time and can get up to start the day.

We’ve found that the consistency of sound, coupled with the changes in light, really helps enforce those good sleep habits.

The Hatch Rest is a smart, well-designed product, and the controls for changing custom options are very intuitive.

What’s also appreciated is that while you’ll probably primarily control the Hatch Rest through the free companion app, you don’t have to. If you prefer, almost all of this can be controlled with the buttons on the bottom of the device.

The Hatch Rest can also be controlled to some extent by your child. If for some reason they want to change the colors or turn it off, they can just touch the top of the night light.

Hatch Rest vs. Hatch Rest+

In addition to the Hatch Rest, there is another option called Hatch Rest+. Although more expensive, the Rest+ offers two interesting additional features.

The main difference is that there is a visible clock on the bottom of the Hatch Rest+. This is a great addition for kids who are learning their numbers and can start to understand what bedtime and wake up time look like on the rooster.

Another feature is the ability for the Hatch Rest+ to be voice controlled via Alexa.

With a four-year-old, I personally would have liked to go with the Rest+ just for the extra clock function. Although my daughter already has a favorite clock, we decided the Hatch+ wasn’t really necessary for her.

Connect Watts Plug

The Hatch Rest is a smart device that has done a great job teaching my daughter better sleeping habits. We love spending time choosing between the different options together, and it’s become a regular part of our bedtime and wake-up routines. Highly recommended.
